EPCON’s relief valve analysis identities overpressure scenarios, calculates relief loads and determines the adequacy of relief devices and associated inlet/outlet piping. The calculation basis for each relief valve is documented including overpressure scenario rationale for applicability, assumptions, and methodology to comply with OSHA PSM standards. EPCON identifies undersized relief valves, excessive inlet pressure drops, high back pressures, etc. and mitigates the concerns present. EPCON's relief valve analysis computation engine conforms with API and DIERS methods for non-reacting systems and has been proven in industry since 1989.
EPCON also evaluates the flare header capacity to determine adequacy and report on valves with excessive back pressures. Our flare simulation model determines the system choke point of Mach flow and backpressure at each relief valve. As part of a flare analysis, EPCON determines the adequacy of all the components of the flare system including flare knock-out drum, flare stack design and location.
